Sam's Testimony

Born October 1963 and coming from a family of nine, being the last born and our Religious background being Hinduism, My family thought us that in Hinduism you have to do good works and you have to pray to the gods for whatever you needed in life and when you die you will travel from one stage to another before you reach the supreme stage. This had been my belief with a feeling that this was all there was to life.

I was a Policeman by profession, and it was in December of 1987 while I was stationed at the Caroni Post Office I met the pastor and his wife of the Kelly Community Bible Church. They came to do their transactions at the office. We became friends and afterward, they began witnessing to me about Jesus Christ, who loves me, cares for me and died for me.

In that Church, there was a Correspondence Course that was offered free which taught about Jesus, so I became interested and started the course, by using my son's name instead. I did not want them to know that I was the one doing it. I was one of those who would consume alcohol and many times I would come home under the influence of alchohol, only to hear my two and a half year old son saying to his mother, "mummy daddy drunk again"

Many times the pastor and his wife would invite us over for lunch or dinner and they would pray before eating. One day at home before we ate my son would say to me, "Daddy why don't we pray before we eat?" I had no answers at that time, only convictions, little did 1 know that God was working in me through my dear son. (the scripture said a little child shall lead them).

I attended several church services. It was in January 1989 while I was sitting in church that I felt the conviction of the Holy Spirit, at that moment God dealt with my heart, and for the first time in my life I understood my true condition, a sinner in need of a saviour. I realized that good works was not the criteria for Salvation, Jesus Christ did the work when died buried and rose again for my sins. Eternal life is a free gift when I receive Christ as my saviour. The preacher went on and shared verses Romans 3:23 Romans 6:23; John 3:16; Ephesians 2:8-9. There and then I trusted the Lord Jesus Christ as my personal Saviour. On that day, I left the service a new person, a satisfied person, one with a hope and direction in life, complete fl.tll-ness in Jesus and one with a desire to tell others about this great one also.
