Subject: Higham update
Hi,
I think it is about time for another update.
Things are still going pretty well here.
We finally have some people back, as school is supposed to start
up next
week or so. It was actually supposed to start last week, but for several
reasons, (one of which is that the teachers are gone right now) school has
been postponed a bit. It is nice to see the village a little less deserted.
We have been continuing with the teaching, and with getting some
scripture
portions ready to print in booklets for the people to have.
Today, after the meeting, we got together with a group to go over some Bible
portions that we will have printed. It went well, but it was kind of
interesting seeing how many times they would differ among themselves as to
whether something was quite right or not. We would sometimes ask something
like, "which of these two things is better", and some would think
one thing,
others slightly different, then we would get a compromise that everyone
liked. Anyway, seeing how hard of a time they had figuring out how to say
things in their own language was kind of interesting. It was nice to see
that I'm not the only one that has a hard time figuring out how to say
things in Maco.
We are also continuing with the plans for our outreach. We are
finalizing
where we will go, and we hope to be able to get fuel soon. We would
appreciate prayer for all the details involved.
Also, another thing to pray about, our coworker Phyllis is going
out to town
with a family that has a 5-year-old son with a cleft palate. (He was born
with a harelip also, but that was operated on soon after he was born, and
they are going to operate on the palate now.) She would appreciate prayer
for the operation, as well as the logistics. The operation will take place
in Valencia, which is an area she isn't familiar with. She expects to be
gone for a little over a month. We also plan to check some portions of Acts
in early November, so we would appreciate prayer that she would be able to
get back so we can check and use those scripture portions.
Cindy and I plan to head out for our annual field conference in
a week and a
half, and we are looking forward to a little break.
Well, I think that is about all for now. Thanks much for praying.
